John Hersey/Peter Bradley: Recent Works is an exhibition of abstract painting that explores the historic interaction between two respected New-York based artists over the last quarter century. John Hersey and Peter Bradley have worked in New York from the 1960s as artists with a strong attraction to classical American Abstract Expressionism: the two men are close friends and artistic colleagues. This show can be understood, thematically speaking, as a retrospective, even as it highlights recent work. Hersey’s works were produced in conjunction with CPC SA’s ”Jump-Start” exhibition in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1999-2000; Bradley’s works date to 2001--2002, and were painted in New York. Both offer a strong argument for the continuation of abstraction as a mode and a technique.
