One Year Lease is a theatre company dedicated to working with and revitalizing classic texts. We define such texts as works that are necessary, urgent, durable and variable. It is our goal to discover the point at which the theatrical event transcends cultural and linguistic differences by performing works in English for non-Anglophone audiences. In turn, we perform for English speaking audiences, striving to make them re-experience classics as works rooted in a web of varying cultures and peoples. We labor to accomplish all of this by creating a community of American and International artists who work alongside each other. The resulting productions are presented both in the United States and internationally. We create large scale productions and workshops that provide an artistic and educational forum for exploring theatre as a meeting point of various cultural artforms.
